Dr. Miriam Martin joined the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) in January 2025 as a scientific project manager. She helps manage initiatives in the Animal Production portfolio within FFAR’s Cultivating Thriving Production Systems Priority Area.
Prior to joining FFAR, Martin worked at the Meat Institute as the director of animal health and welfare. While at the Meat Institute, Martin led foreign animal disease preparedness efforts and helped members continuously improve animal welfare practices.
Before her role at the Meat Institute, Martin was the operations manager for Progressive Beef where she traveled to feedyards and conducted animal health and welfare audits.
Martin received her bachelor’s degree in animal science from the University of Missouri, her master’s degree in animal science from Colorado State University and her doctorate in physiology from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Her Kansas State research was on quantifying and alleviating pain in livestock.
Outside of work, Martin enjoys spending time with her family working on their ranch in western Colorado.
