Food is at the center of many pressing global challenges and opportunities. Knowledge barriers exacerbate these challenges and prevent data-driven solutions. Yet, much remains unknown about what’s actually in our food and how it affects the health of people and the planet.
The Periodic Table of Food Initiative is a global participatory project to comprehensively unlock the diverse composition of food eaten around the world. Ultimately, the Periodic Table of Food Initiative will enable healthcare professionals and food system stakeholders to translate evidence for developing data-driven programs, practices, and policies.
This symposium, a side event at the World Health Assembly, provided a high-level overview of the Initiative and its potential applications for solving the critical food challenges of our times. Global thought leaders and experts discussed the need and approach of this multi-sectoral collaborative.
