The University of Toledo is proud to host a joint workshop in collaboration with the Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS), the Department of Energy (DOE), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The objective of this workshop is to discuss critical issues in advancing Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) on land and in space for the next 20 years.
Experts will convene to discuss roadblocks and opportunities for CEA, and how resources from the federal government, state universities, and industry partners can be leveraged to strengthen the future of CEA in the U.S. and abroad. FFAR Scientific Program Director, Dr. John Reich, will be be speaking as a panelist about emerging technology in CEA.
A special session will include representatives from six federal agencies to describe the funding opportunities they are offering in CEA research.

- Emerging technologies in sensing, automation, AI/ML, and control
- Water efficiency and management
- Plant breeding and adaptations to controlled environments
- Pest management and plant health
- Food quality, safety, and nutrition
