FFAR and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), with support from the RF Catalytic Capital, launched the Harvest for Health Challenge to develop underutilized crops. These crops can provide nutritional security in the face of shifting weather patterns and offer diverse economic opportunities to growers. Phase I of Harvest for Health, the Breakthrough Crop Challenge, aimed to de-risk future investment in underutilized crops by developing a predictive model that can identify underutilized crops with properties of interest to food and ingredient companies.

The Breakthrough Crop Challenge included two distinct parts: the initial seed funding part and the predictive model development and validation part.

The Breakthrough Crop Challenge entered into the predictive model development and validation part, which offered up to $1 million to predictive models that effectively identify crops for commercial development. FFAR is hosted a webinar to provide additional information about the Breakthrough Crop Challenge, including the research criteria and application requirements. FFAR will also addressed questions related to the Challenge during the webinar.

Attendees were invited to submit questions about the Harvest for Health Breakthrough Crop Challenge during registration or by sending questions Rebecca Gyawu at rgyawu@foundationfar.org by 5 p.m. EDT, Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
