FFAR’s AgMission™ Director Allison Thomson spoke on a panel, Catalyzing Action on Methane Reductions from the Food & Agriculture Sectors, at the 28th Annual U.N. Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28).

This panel, hosted by the Environmental Defense Fund and the Global Methane Hub, focused on reducing methane in agriculture. The panel specifically covered three new opportunities for leadership on methane reduction in the food and agriculture sector:

  1. Dairy methane: Executive leaders from major companies within the dairy supply chain will shared insights on methane action in their supply chains.
  2. Enteric R&D Accelerator: Representatives of governments, private sector and philanthropy shared information on investment in breakthrough research to mitigate enteric fermentation methane.
  3. Food waste: New initiatives and financial commitments to address food loss and waste reduction and recovery were addressed.

FFAR attended COP28 to highlight the urgent need for pioneering research to help the agriculture sector cope with extreme weather impacts. FFAR’s public-private partnership model is funding some of this critical research through the Greener Cattle Initiative.
