On June 1, 2026, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) and the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) hosted a lunch discussion on the value of public-private partnerships in advancing judicious antimicrobial use in animal agriculture through the International Consortium for Antimicrobial Stewardship in Agriculture (ICASA). This consortium funds research to provide U.S. swine and beef producers with practical solutions, such as new technologies and management practices, that promote judicious antibiotic use and improve animal welfare.

What: An expert panel discussed how ICASA’s public-private partnerships model allows industry and commodity groups to address research questions impacting the livestock supply chain that no individual entity can resolve alone.

FFAR Executive Director Dr. Saharah Moon Chapotin moderated the panel.

Established in 2019, ICASA funds research increasing producer profitability, promoting targeted antibiotic use, advancing animal health and welfare and increasing transparency in food production practices in the U.S. beef and swine sectors. To date, it has invested $15 million in 31 research projects.

In 2025, FFAR recommitted to ICASA with returning and new consortium participants, including the The Beef Alliance, McDonald’s Corporation,National Cattlemen’s Beef Association,  National Pork Board, Pipestone Veterinary Services,Wholestone Prestage and Yum! Brands. The Consortium welcomes interest from new participants.
