Plant Health 2024, the annual meeting of the American Phytopathological Society, brought together nearly 1,100 dedicated scientists at the forefront of advancing plant health. Spanning diverse backgrounds, from diagnostics to groundbreaking research, attendees collaborated on vital agricultural, food safety and food security issues.
This meeting was a hub for cutting-edge research presentations, expert speaker sessions, and unparalleled opportunities to exchange ideas. Plant Health 2024 included over 700 technical abstracts, engaging hot topic roundtables, hands-on workshops and more than 60 invited speakers.
Dr. LaKisha Odom, FFAR scientific program director, presented during two sessions. During a Sherwood Initiative Session titled “Current Challenges & Future Needs of Employers,” Odom discussed current challenges and future needs of scientific workforce development and had informal conversations with faculty from Minority Serving Institutions on the challenges they face in exposing their students to graduate programs and careers in plant pathology. She also presented during a Hot Topic session titled “What’s New and What are Some Hidden Opportunities for You!” During this session, she presented funding opportunities provided by FFAR that plant pathologists can apply for.
