Reviewer Conflict of Interest Policies

We have policies in place for Reviewers to prevent conflicts of interests.

We work to ensure that our reviewers do not have real or perceived conflicts with the applicant or project personnel.

Reviewers with a conflict of interests must recuse themselves from evaluating or participating in the discussions of proposals with which they have a conflict. All reviewers are required to acknowledge and adhere to our Conflict of Interest policies.

These policies in includes the Pre-Review Conflict of Interest Policy and the Post-Review Conflict of Interest Certification.

Pre-Review Conflict of Interest Policy

Reviewers complete the Pre-Review Conflict of Interest form as part of their application reviews in our Grants Management System. This form allows Reviewers to disclose any actual, potential or perceived conflicts of interest that may exist during the concept or grant review process. It is the reviewer’s obligation to disclose any conflicts of interest accordingly.

Advisory Council members and External Peer Reviewers may not participate in the evaluation of applications or proposals from an organization with which they are employed or with which they have a direct or indirect financial interest.

Reviewers also may not participate in the evaluation of applications if they have collaborated with any individuals named in the application in the follow manners:

  • Co-authored publications within the past three years, including pending publications and submissions;
  • Collaborated on projects within the past three years, including current and planned collaborations;

Partners with individuals in your field in a consulting/financial arrangement/other conflict-of-interest in the past three years, including receiving compensation of any type (e.g., money, goods or services).

Post Review Conflict of Interest Certification

After conducting their evaluations, we ask Reviewers to certify that they did not incur any conflicts of interest while review proposals by signing the Post-Review Conflict of Interest Certification form. This form is also submitted though our Grants Management System.
